Qsymia is the combination of two generic medications. One half of the drug is composed of the medication topiramate, which is known to cause weight loss in several ways. Topiramate increases feelings of fullness, makes foods taste less appealing, and increases the rate of burning calories. The other half of Qsymia is the appetite-suppressant Phentermine. Phentermine is thought to suppress the appetite by triggering the release of a brain chemical that increases blood concentrations of the appetite-regulating hormone leptin.
The cost of the medication program depends on the individual’s needs. Our pricing for Qsymia is $79.50.
For our standard medication program, we administer Oral Phentermine Hydrochloride (or HCL). HCL is a prescription appetite suppressant used for short-term weight loss management. When used in conjunction with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy, HCL may help you to lose weight while you are learning new ways to eat healthier and exercise regularly.
To participate in our standard medication program, you will need to have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 30% or greater. You may also participate in this program if you have a BMI greater than 27% with at least one co-morbidity factor. Those with a BMI of 26% or less may not be eligible for this program. All new participants of our standard and advanced medication programs must consult with our doctor or physicians assistant.
For many of our clients, the most optimal time of day to take HCL is once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Generally speaking, we suggest that you take your first capsule at 9AM and the second around 2PM. These intervals have shown to offer the most protection from hunger cravings, which usually start before dinner and can last until bedtime.
